One thing incredible that the Grapes Of Wrath show is how to give love freely and in different forms. And that none of what I am about to talk about has to only take place on Valentine’s Day.
The Oakies, in the book, never hesitate to give to the next stranger even if they have nothing to give. They understand that they way to survive is a team effort and to keep everyone afloat. You not only give to someone else but you must do it with your whole heart. The people and the Joads don’t give grudgingly or half-heartedly but they would never think to keep from others what they can keep for themselves. One really good example is when Ma has made breakfast for the family and she has cleaned everything and put it away and when someone comes walking down and stops to say ‘Good Morning’, she offers coffee and breakfast, both of which have been put away, dishes clean, and are in very short supply. It’s even more awesome that these people were brought up that way and they are teaching their children the same things.
Although the Oakies tried to give freely and by doing this giving love and generosity, the people already living in California were hard-pressed and was trying to take everything from the Oakies because they wanted the Oakies to leave. The funny thing about this is that if they hasd just treated them fairly and like descent human beings then the Oakies would probably have been able to support they family and make money quickly and move back home or to another state to start life over. Instead, the Oakies were forced to not only stay in California but roam the land as well while they would get enough to only continue to move from place to place on an never ending cycle.
You see, one group of people have everything but are unhappy and angry while the other has nothing and lives to give more and more and are happy to have their family beside them and strangers, who quickly become friends, all around them. I feel like more and more people these days are starting to view the world as a every-man-for-himself when that is exactly why we get problems like the Love Canal, Pollution, Bankruptcy, Crimes, and so many more. It’s kind of funny actually because Capitalism is based on the ability to improve one’s situation and better oneself but we tend to loose sight of other people and focus only on ourselves and then blame the system.
Don’t forget about those around you. Don’t be self-centered and hang your head in the corner while you pity yourself while someone needs you help and can’t do it on their own even if it is just to make them smile or take them out and get their kids off of it for a little while.
Let them know that you won’t leave them and you will help them get through it. Extend yourself for others and you’ll be amazed at how far they’ll go for you in return. Ma did this for the family that they found along the road and never wanted to stop helping them.
Recently in class we have been doing mid term blog presentations (yes we are past the mid terms). This has started me thinking about all the people that look at this blog. I think it would be really amazing if you guys told us what you think about it. Maybe comment? That would be incredible, because we don’t get a lot of comments on this blog and when we do get some GGP and I just get so excited. We really want to know what you guys think about this blog so that we can make it better and more enjoyable for you. We are so thankful for all the feedback you have given us, so thank you!
All things in life end are best ended with music. Whether it be a movie, play, relationship, funeral, or birthday and since we are officially done with The Great Gatsby in class I thought the best way to end it was with music.
I’m going to put certain scenes of The Great Gatsby to the music of John Mayer’s (with Katy Perry) Who You Love.
The lyrics to the song will be in blue and what scene it overlays will be in purple.
We still aren’t don’t with The Great Gatsby in class and I only found that out after my English teacher thought it would be a good idea to have a discussion and read an article about it. We already had to do the BRAWL and that was enough, more than enough actually. I would have preferred to just have taken a test on the book instead of doing this but I am in AP so what he says goes. I would just like to politely disagree with what he says though. At least the year is half over and I can read more AP books for the AP exam next year; fun all around me. I think the more we talk about the book the more I don’t like it. It’s like setting your alarm to wake you up to your favorite song because you will hate that song really quickly since that’s what drives you to get up from your pleasant dreams and comfy sleep and wake up. I’m sure there are benefits to discussing and answering questions about The Great Gatsby in class but I think you can only analyze something so much before you don’t see any new connections or points of interests. It’s the same reason why it’s a good idea to have someone else read your essay or whatever before you turn it in since you have read it so many times that it’s hard for you to see the grammar errors and helpful hints.
It’s important to know when to move on and when it’s worth it to try something new.
Hello there! Good to see you again so soon! Sadly, I do not bring good news.
Like we have been, I am going to tell you how our english DIY project has been coming along and, well, the truth isn’t so good. Navy Blue Dress and I have put up the Google doc for people to sign up for the first food competition, which would have been today, but people just aren’t signing up. It is really heart wrenching to be so excited and ready for something like this and have it fall down flat in front of you. No matter though because we have a plan! What we plan to do is very simple. Navy Blue Dress and I will make and sell ridiculously fun and tasty treats ourselves. We were considering making things and having a competition, or rather food taste in this case, and just make it ourselves instead of waiting for nobody to sign up and do that. However, we decided against it because we’re so busy and we figured that if people weren’t even commenting about this saying they were going or even signing up then how would we know that they would show up this time. And, again, it would just waste our time and lower our spirits further.
So, thank you all for letting us talk about this with you but I guess that’s where this journey ends with us and continues with Navy Blue Dress and I. If you guys comment and like this post enough then I’ll put up some pictures of us making our recipes and maybe even put the recipes up here. I hope you guys do respond at some point though because otherwise it feels like we’re talking to a wall or an animal who just watches you while you talk and then goes back to grooming itself when your done, as if you hadn’t said a word. Or even a hot cup of coffee now going cold waiting for someone to come along and pick it up. The little things can also hurt and tear your heart a little too.
Hello my darling. How are you doing? Well, let this make your day even better.
A little about me. I love the little things in life. Who doesn’t? It’s what makes everything so special, creative, magical, and definitely nostalgic. The way the rain sounds when you are going to sleep. The moment when you come home after buying all of your favorite foods. How no matter grumpy, tired, or exhausted, you will always have your family there for you. Waking up to breakfast. Falling asleep in the car or on the couch and waking up in your bed. When things go better than planned or expected. Bumping into a guy and looking up and having your stomach do cartwheels. Staying at home, reading a good book with some tea and cookies. No homework. British accents. Accents in general. Holidays with your family.
Right now I really wanted to talk about why I have a blog. As you might have been able to tell, we (Gold Glitter Pumps, Dark Gray Peacoat(last year), and I) had to start this as a English assignment…and it ended up that Gold Glitter Pump’s and my English teacher this year wanted us to have a blog too. (Sorry if that was all really confusing. We try really to use those names but it is difficult sometimes.) Last year, especially near the end, it started becoming a drag having to get a post out once a week that was always 500+ words and that it has to be thought of in a different way, but honestly I was really excited when my teacher said that we were doing a blog.
Over the summer I was the only one that was continuing the blog (nothing bad meant to the others) and I did that because I wanted to. If you noticed it was more personal things and more well, uneducational things that were posted during the summer.
Now that I am doing this blog once a week again, I realize how much I enjoy doing it. I love writing, I always have and so to be able to write every week and not just on some book we read or something like that is really cool, well at least to me. Also, I am able to put what I think on here. I was never able to keep a diary as a kid no matter how much I wanted to (and believe me I wanted to) so having a blog is almost the same thing to me. I love knowing that people are reading what I say and maybe just maybe I might change somebody’s way of thought, for the better. You don’t know how excited I get even if we only have a small amount of views, I just love seeing that people are looking. When I go and see the countries we have reached it is amazing I just don’t know how to react. I really like when I see that people have come to our blog from somewhere else, because to me that is saying that our blog seemed interesting enough just from a little blurb to see more. And the thing that excites me the most is when people like and comment on my posts. It make me feel so special to know that you took the time to read and to reply or even press the like button.
So yeah, that’s why I have a blog and I know that I would never have had a blog if I hadn’t been assigned it last year, so I am extremely glad I was assigned it (did I just say I was glad I was assigned homework? Wow that’s weird).I think that if any of you feel this way towards anything, then you should do it. If it makes you feel happy then go for it!
How are you? Well I hope you guys are having fabulous weekends, even though it’s just about over. But I am so excited about the project that Navy Blue Dress and I are working on together! I was really glad and excited when she asked if we should just work together. But that’s not even the best part because I wanted to make sure that she knew we could do either of our ideas but it made me feel special and loved when she was all “no, I really like your idea and I would like to do it with you”. Hahahaha. I sound so dopey but it was one of those cute bestie moments that you giggle at and smile hopelessly. Well, the project is coming together nicely because I could tell that when we started this it was going to be a lot to put together, an trust me it is, but it’s a good crazy. So far we have made a Pinterest account, a Facebook page, a Twitter account, and a page on here, which you should totally go and look at it. If you’re curious at what the project is, or don’t know what I’m talking about then go and look at the home page an click the page that says “Eat To Cure”. As far as dates go we only have tentative dates right now which we’ll put up on the page so you guys can see them. I say tentative because for one, we don’t really know how many people show up (I hope we get to see a lot of you there and finally meet some of you beautiful people) and we don’t know if we’ll be busy on the days that we chose either. If we do change dates though we will definitely give you guys tons of notice in advance so that all of you can still come and be apart of this really exciting thing. I’ll put the links to all of our separate pages on this post and the page so that you guys can find out more about this and join us even. You don’t have to make anything, just come down, have some good food with awesome people and maybe even some coffee.
I really hope to meet some our you lovely people, it would seriously like make my life, not just day, but life. If there’s not enough of you guys on the first one then we won’t be able to do it any longer. Navy Blue Dress and I will still have fun making our own food and selling it but it’s still so neat to share this with all of you.
Here are the links to the different social media sites I told you that we have created. Take a look, follow or like them, and share this experience with us because it will only make it more special and better.
I know that at first I said that I was doing the “Books to Movies” thing but Gold Glitter Pumps and I realized that with both of us doing separate projects we were still helping each other out a ton! So what we decided to do was we would both work on gold Glitter Pump’s idea together (if you are not sure what it is we have a page about it on this blog. It is at the top and called Eat to Cure. Go check it out). So far we have a Facebook page, a Twitter page, a Pinterest account, and a page on this blog for the event. We are both really excited about this and really looking forward to it. The one thing I am scared about though, is that no one will show up. But you know what? When things like that happen we have to be able to pick our selves up fast and be able to improvise to still get what we need to get done. In light of that, Gold Glitter Pump and I have agreed that if no one shows up we will be making food and selling it and still giving all the profits to Trekstock. I am really hoping this all works out.
Please go check out all the stuff we have up and find out what this is all about. If you have anything to say about this we would love to hear it. Thank you so much!
For the food competitions that we are doing for our english project we need help on deciding which foods to do. Try and pick your top three if you can. Soon we are going to add a page on here with all of the information for the competitions and winnings and everything so you can come and eat some good food and possibly win some money. If you have any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated and we’ll message you back.
