What Was That All About?

You are officially almost as dizzy and confused as I am while reading Catcher in the Rye.  I don’t really have a strong opinion as in I don’t loathe it but neither do I adore it, I’m just indifferent to it.  It is, however, confusing me because I don’t understand why Holden does some of the things he does and he will often barely explain something and then say something like “Well, I don’t know how to explain it but that’s it.” or “You know what I mean.” and he is very vague and it makes you feel a little crazy sometimes.  I am really hoping that the book ends with everything making sense and I understand why the author decided to write this book this way because otherwise it would just be a waste of time that I can be spending on studying for my finals.

Beyond that, Catcher in the Rye doesn’t seem all that special to me and my friends either love it or hate it and some even think it has funny parts, which are completely invisible to me.  You know that feeling you get when you’re doing something and you can tell that it’s going to be something magical or make sense in the end and make you happy that you did it, well, I almost feel that way about this book but I’m trying to expect the worst and hope for the best so that I’m not angry or disappointed when it ends and I’m left there wondering what the point of all that was.

To show you how incredibly lax and seemingly useless the story is, Holden failed at a private high school or some sort, for the nth time, and he is trying to avoid his parents during his Christmas Break until they get the letter that he failed so that he doesn’t have to tell them himself.  However, Holden hasn’t even gotten home yet and I only have 40 more pages in the book.  I hope I get a happy surprise and if not then I really hope it  brings joy or deep thought to others because it sure isn’t doing that for me, and that’s okay because I have other books that are special to me.

Now that I have thoroughly made you dizzy, told you a brief synopsis of Catcher in the Rye without giving anything away, and giving you my perspective on reading it, I hope you go do something that gives you a happy surprise or something to the affect that my books have on me, “You know?” hahahahaha.

Have a good day everybody.

Love, Music, Death, & Books

All things in life end are best ended with music.  Whether it be a movie, play, relationship, funeral, or birthday and since we are officially done with The Great Gatsby in class I thought the best way to end it was with music.

I’m going to put certain scenes of The Great Gatsby to the music of John Mayer’s (with Katy Perry) Who You Love.

The lyrics to the song will be in blue and what scene it overlays will be in purple.

That’s Enough

We still aren’t don’t with The Great Gatsby in class and I only found that out after my English teacher thought it would be a good idea to have a discussion and read an article about it.  We already had to do the BRAWL and that was enough, more than enough actually.  I would have preferred to just have taken a test on the book instead of doing this but I am in AP so what he says goes.  I would just like to politely disagree with what he says though.  At least the year is half over and I can read more AP books for the AP exam next year; fun all around me.  I think the more we talk about the book the more I don’t like it.  It’s like setting your alarm to wake you up to your favorite song because you will hate that song really quickly since that’s what drives you to get up from your pleasant dreams and comfy sleep and wake up.  I’m sure there are benefits to discussing and answering questions about The Great Gatsby in class but I think you can only analyze something so much before you don’t see any new connections or points of interests.  It’s the same reason why it’s a good idea to have someone else read your essay or whatever before you turn it in since you have read it so many times that it’s hard for you to see the grammar errors and helpful hints.

It’s important to know when to move on and when it’s worth it to try something new.

Keeping Secrets

Right now I am reading The Great Gatsby for class and so is Navy Blue Dress.  I have seen the movie and I liked it a lot but Navy Blue Dress hasn’t.  I want to tell her the ending so badly but I can’t because she doesn’t want to know and I have to respect that because I hate it when people spoil things for me and it’s courteous anyways.  We’re almost done with it and I can’t wait to see her reaction.  I want to know what she thinks about it an if it was the same as the movie.  After, of course, I want to watch it with her so that she has both read the book and seen the movie.  Who doesn’t love a movie with Leonardo DiCaprio anyways?

So far I am thoroughly enjoying it but I just hope that the ending wasn’t as anticlimactic as the movie was.  The ending just did not do justice for me but you are ore than welcome to disagree with me.  The whole thing about not telling Navy Blue Dress made me think about the concept of secrets.  It shows that you trust someone enough to tell them a secret but it can also be a selfish thing if you need to get something off your chest but now that person has nobody they can tell and no relief to gain, with out breaking your trust at least.  They are able to create strong friendships and also tear them apart.  They can tempt you, push you to the breaking point, and bring covered truth to the surface for an instant and then seemed to have never existed before.  After all, when you mix promises with stubbornness you get loyalty and secrets has the capability to undo that whole recipe.

It’s hard to find someone nowadays that can keep a secret truthfully.  I think that’s also a big deal breaker in a relationship when a guy can’t keep a secret, especially yours.  Of course this comes back to bite you when he knows something about someone else that he can’t tell you.  When you’re married to someone though you agree to share everything with them but I think this has a limit or a certain respect when it comes to secrets because if my best friend was having problems and she didn’t want anybody to know then there is no reason to tell my husband and if he asks then I hope he can respect how I’m keeping my secret and if it was absolutely necessary then of course I was tell him.

Wow, I think too much.  My head hurts now.  I am going to go get some advil and let you sit there thinking about this.  Have a wonderful day.

p.s.  You have no idea how hard it is sometimes when I write about Navy Blue Dress and I start to use her real name.  It’s a good thing I check after writing everything of mine.

Waiting for the Book

Unknown

When the Great Gatsby came out, I specifically did not go and see it because I wanted to read the book first. This was a little hard for me because I love Leonardo Dicaprio. I knew I had to read the book for school so I ended up waiting until then to read it. And that day has come that we are reading it in class and I am so excited! So far I am about 70 pages into it and it is pretty good. As Fitzgerald’s writing most of the time is, it is fairly dry but I am ok with that. One thing that I thought before I read the book, was that Gatsby was the narrator, but I was wrong; the narrator is Nick Carraway. What is really interesting in this book is how Nick goes from being a character sometimes, to just being the writer of the story. This is probably hard to understand unless yo have read the book, but sometimes he backs up and starts talking about the book to the reader. I would  definitely  suggest this book.

Have a good day everyone!!! <33333

What you didn’t realize about Animal Farm and What People Take for Granted

As mentioned before, I have been reading Animal Farm. I have read this book before and the first time I read it I was just trying to read it as fast as possible to get through with it and I found the book to be good for a book I had to read for school, but I would not read it on my own. Now I’m not saying that I would go now and pick it up off a shelf to read in my free time, but I realized a little bit more reading it the second time around.

A World Without Moms : AQOTWF

In the book All Quiet on the Western Front, Paul goes on leave and he discovers that his mother, once again, has cancer and things are not looking good for her. He is devastated just thinking that he might not have his mom anymore. Especially with all the pain she’s going through.  Every mom has to send their son away to war and pray and hope everyday that the letter they will get in the mail is from them and not from the government giving their condolences.  Our mothers care more about us than we ever could and they were forced to live without their sons for years on end.  They will never be able to get those years back.  Paul’s mother, even though she is hungrier than him, sends him almost all of the food she can get her hands on and figures that maybe if he just had enough food that he will come home to her.  Our mothers never want us to grow up and once we are grown up we realize just how important the time spent with them is and all the memories that you hold dear of them.  This video shows how much moms mean to people and how important they are in our lives.
